- We generate your private key in the browser and start a Let's Encrypt order with only the CSR.
- Place the challenge file or DNS TXT record, click Verify, then download cert + key.
Private key never leaves your browser
Many "free SSL generators" create the private key on their servers. FreeTools does not. Your browser creates the key; we only forward a Certificate Signing Request to Let's Encrypt, then return the signed certificate for you to pair locally.
Disclaimer: This is not our own CA. Issuance depends on Let's Encrypt availability and correct challenge setup. You are responsible for installing and renewing certificates (90-day validity).

FAQ
Do you ever see my private key?+
No. The key pair is generated with the Web Crypto API in your browser. Only the CSR (public information) is sent to our server to complete the Let's Encrypt order.
Is this a certificate authority?+
No. This tool is a free interface to Let's Encrypt. Certificates are Domain Validation (DV) only and typically last 90 days.
HTTP vs DNS validation?+
HTTP requires uploading a challenge file to your website. DNS requires a TXT record and is required for wildcard certificates (*.example.com).
Why staging certificates?+
While we soft-launch, orders may use Let's Encrypt staging so we can test safely. Staging certs are not trusted by browsers — switch to production once validated.
